Bomu Medical Centre is a ‘not for profit’ registered and recognized non-governmental healthcare organization.
It is a project of the Mkomani Clinic Society (MCS), an entity that came into existence in the late 70’s when a group of citizens who were conscious of the dire lack of accessible, affordable health care services for the poor and destitute, got together and established a small outpatient facility in the Mkomani area of Mombasa Kenya. In the last 25 years, the Society has grown, and so has its activities.
Activities planned for World Diabetes Day include:
- A week of diabetes education and awareness to the community in Kilindini District
- A week of free diabetes screeening
- A three Km walk by staff, diabetes clients attending our facility plus other community members
- A day of diabetes treatment

La actividad consiste, en la representación por parte de uno de los asistentes, de como se realiza un autocuidado de los pies, y automonitoreo de la glucemia, así, como compartir sus experiencias desde que poseen una complicación de la diabetes mellitus.

Fun walk (5km) for to raise awareness of diabetes. Event will happen late afternoon so that everyone can stay for the lighting of the monument in blue. A VIP function to all media and main sponsors will happen at 7pm.
In different shopping malls, our diabetes nurses will organize an event to raise awareness: Pedometers will be distributed to people passing by and they will complete a diabetes tour in the mall. The steps they do during the tour are being converted into money thanks to our sponsors and donated to our diabetes children holiday camps. The nurses will of course answer questions about diabetes and its prevention, but also motivate people to participate.
Creating awareness about diabetes is of paramount importance. Get involved with local schools. Promoting the concept - Hit it hard before it starts.
A diabetes walk will be held on 14 November.
The Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation of Washington, DC invites you and your guests to attend a special presenation on Islet Cell Transplantation. The third annual "Lighting Century Tower" blue in recognition of WDD will begin at dusk with local elected officials and people with diabetes speaking from experience living with diabetes and culminate with the expected crowd of over 150 to blow bubbles into the sky sending symbols of hope world-wide to families and friends living with diabetes.
This year we expect more local businesses and shopping centers to "Go Blue" for the weekend. Last year our community partners included:
The Tioga Town Center, Alachua County Medical Society Headquarters, Perry McGriff Insurance Agency, Avera & Smith Law Firm, Rod Lash Development, all 7 Gainesville Fire Stations and during shift change (7 am 5 pm and Midnight) both the Police & Sheriff Departments flashed their blue sirens when getting into their squad cars before pulling out of the stations.
Both the City and County Governments will Proclaim November 14th as World Diabetes Day in Alachua County and invite the entire community to join the "Control Patrol" at the Tower on November 12th.
